Once the problem and market were identified, automakers were able to proceed with the actual design and engineering of the product: seat belts. These restraining devices would have to provide protection for people of all sizes and heights. 

Furthermore, engineers had to find a way to place a seat belt across a passenger. Its primary purpose was to restrain them against impacts that might push them forward. In other words, the seat belt needed to tighten upon impact.

Product engineering is a crucial part of the entire design and manufacturing process. During this stage, engineers carefully calculate the size of a product. They also take into consideration a multitude of environmental factors that could affect the functionality of the product.

Once the product has been designed and engineered, it can go into production mode. Firstly, prototypes will be created, tested, changed, and retested. Often, companies will offer incentives to customers who are willing to try out the new product and offer legitimate feedback.
